The Highlands
- 33 x 33 cm

Not until you drive through the Highlands in Scotland do you realise how majestic they are. Incredible peaks just jut out, seeming to reach the sky. In Autumn they are covered in dying bracken that gives the peaks a rusty colour, and little rivulets flow down the rocky surfaces. It’s very quiet there. A beautiful place.

After the Morning Catch
- 43 x 53 cm

The fog and mist over the water were the inspiration for me to paint this. The boat appears from nowhere with a lone sailor sorting something on board. Perhaps he is admiring his catch for the morning, or a sorting a tangle of lines or nets. I’m hoping this scene provides some mystery and offers the chance for the observer to make their own story.

This artwork joins my "From the Market to the Kitchen" series. A still life painting of heirloom carrots from the local farmers market. Not all carrots are orange of course and that makes this common vegetable a lot more interesting. A fun little painting to add to a still life collection.
